Berita dari The Peninsula Qatar berikut ini mungkin bisa mejawab pertanyaan beberapa orang mengenai berapa sih gaji minimum untuk bisa membawa keluarga. Dulu sempat batas ini "hanya" sekitar QR3000 saja. Dan ternyata sudah naik menjadi QR4500. Selanjutnya sudah ada wacana untuk menaikkan batas minimum gaji pokok itu menjadi QR7000.

Mungkin ini juga bisa menjadi salah satu tolok ukur, kira2 berapa gaji yg diminta pada saat wawancara kerja di Qatar.

Due to the increasing cost of living in the country, residents with a basic salary of less than QR7,000 a month might not be allowed to sponsor their wives and children here.
The authorities are taking a closer look at the possibility of raising the minimum monthly basic salary limit for residents to apply for family visas to QR7,000. The limit currently is QR4,500 but the recruitment committee responsible for clearing family visas for residents, is planning to increase the slab in the near future.

Penasaran dengan pendapatan orang2 yg bekerja di timur tengah, khususnya di Qatar? Berikut ini hasil survey yg dilakukan Bayt pada awal 2007 mengenai struktur gaji di timur tengah. Tentu saja variablenya sangat banyak, mulai dari skill, experience, posisi, de el el. Paling tidak ini bisa memberikan gambaran yg cukup jelas mengenai hak ini.

Kalau dilihat pada diagram berikut, rata2 pekerja di Qatar mendapatkan penghasilan sekitar 2700USD (sekitar 24 jutaan Rupiah) per bulan. Sementara di Saudi dan Kuwait, penghasilan rata2 bisa mencapai 3000 USD lebih. Sayangnya report ini tidak membahas mengenai total benefit yg didapat oleh para penerima salary tersebut.
Sedangkan industri yg memiliki pay-scale yg paling tinggi adalah Law. Berbeda sekali dengan pemikiran rata2 orang yg meyakini bahwa Oil & Gas adalah tempat paling "basah". Wah, kesempatan buat teman2 di Law Firm untuk mulai unjuk gigi :D

Tapi perlu juga diperhatikan bahwa rata2 tingkat kenaikan gaji tetap tidak sebanding dengan meningkatnya Cost of Living. Contohnya di Qatar, tingkat kenaikan gaji hanya sekitar 17% dibanding kenaikan Cost of Living yg mencapai 27%. Hal ini sejalan dengan hasil penelitian yg pernah juga saya bahas di blog ini sebelumnya.

Menurut informasi dari beberapa surat kabar lokal dan QatarJournal, Bahrain akan mengusulkan pembatasan waktu bagi expat untuk tinggal di negara2 teluk sampai maksimum 6 tahun. Hal ini akan diusulkan dalam pertemuan peminpin negara2 teluk dalam waktu dekat.

Millions of expatriate workers could face being kicked out of the Gulf if plans proposed by Bahrain are passed at the next GCC summit in December. The kingdom will put forward a motion at the meeting in Doha to place a six-year residency cap on all expatriates working in the region in an effort to stop what it sees as the erosion of local culture and to stem soaring unemployment among nationals. "The majority of foreign manpower in the region comes from different cultural and social backgrounds that cannot assimilate or adapt to the local cultures," said Bahrain Labour Minister Majeed Al-Alawi.

Sebenarnya hal ini tidak berpengaruh banyak terhadap expat dari Indonesia, karena sebagian besar expat dari Indonesia baru saja tinggal akhir2 ini. Ada beberapa yg sudah lama banget, sampai beranak cucu, cuma jumlahnya tidak seberapa.
Aku sih mau aja di suruh pulang, asal dikasih pesangon yang "pantas" hehehe

Setelah membahas tentang hasil survey gaji 2006, bulan ini terbit lagi survey tentang kenaikan gaji di middle east. Berbeda dengan tahun 2006 dimana kenaikan tertinggi ditempati oleh Qatar, tahun ini Oman lah yg memberikan kenaikan gaji rata2 tertinggi. Qatar merosot ke posisi ketiga setelah UEA. Salah satu yg membuat kenaikan gaji di Oman meningkat karena adanya peraturan yg memperbolehkan orang untuk pindah ke company lain.
Berikut ini adalah bbrp fakta penting seputar Qatar:

• Average salaries in Qatar increased by 10.6% this year, compared to 11.1% last year
